Dog Pound (2010)

Brutually real drama about three juveniles who enter a correctional centre. The Franco-Canadian remake of 'Scum', but what does happen at the end?
After the rape scene with Davis, he is alone in his bunk at night. He climbs of his bunk and rings the intercom for the guards. He asks to call his mum. They refuse. He continues to ring the intercom, to which the guards switch off. Davis, defeated, slowly crawls back to his bed but not before yanking a sharp part of the bunk off and taking it to bed with him.
The next morning, Davis is discovered in bed with bloodstains on his sheets. We are led to the conclusion that he has slit his wrists in the middle of the night from guilt of his abuse.
Later that day the rest of the kids go on hunger strike, partly due to Davis and Angel. The strike turns into a riot started by Butch. He goes for Banks's thugs and beats the hell out of them.
The riot team are called in and start going for the kids, who by now have smashed the place and the remaining guards to bits. Smoke grenades are thrown at the kids, and they try to bust down a door to get out.
Max leads Butch through a gap in the wall and into the laundry room. Butch keeps running and stops when he realises Max isn't following. He stops and looks at Max, who just looks sadly at him and closes the door on his way out. Butch runs out the back of the laundry room and to a door leading outside. After breaking the door down, he reaches the outside. He gasps at the fresh air and smiles. Behind him come three riot guards. One smashes his truncheon on Butch's leg, breaking it and sending him crippling to the ground. Butch screams. The other two start beating him and drag back through the open door into the depths of the laundry room and facility below. The last shot we see is one the riot guards reaching his arm back out to slam the door shut.

    1. Dumbass they can't kill him they're correctional facility guards they wouldn't ever kill one of the kids on purpose, I'm guessing he received his original sentence and instead of getting off he fucked up and was a big part of the riot, he wasn't trying to escape at the end since max didn't go with him and decided to get some fresh air, the tear gas. So that's probably the most likely ending that really happened.

    4. Luke. Respect to you for having the courage to speak out and in the manner in which you do so. A man is worth his words and your words define who you are as a man. You are a good man.

    8. Speaking from experience some "men" have been so belittled in life that they don't to other. Don't do what has been done to you. What you put into this world is what comes back. And what happens when this happens is usually they will have to of course take the young men to the hospital if they have spoke up usually though depending where you are in the world you can get help and this horrible places like this are shut down so no they don't kill the young men. They usually end up drugging some that they can't get to calm down then call in clean up team. After that they try to get information and watch over the cameras. Like I said though depends where you are in the world and this happens. Butch would of went on to be sentence probably with a more longer one. Depending on if they do something. And then theirs other cases that these places get away with it and it keeps happening. Unfortunately time doesn't stop for anyone. It keeps going and that's what they do in these places they keep going or get something like this that happens and it's to late. 💜

  4. My thought is that Butch is sent to adult prison for his original sentence about 4 years and a half i believe and the door slamming at the end means "There is not escape" and there could have been a 2nd movie from Butch in adult prison but i think they left it as it is for the question.

  5. im confused at what max did. i almost feel like it was a betrayal but i feel like thats highly unlikely. was he just overwhelmed by it all??

    1. diana, from what i believe (i have watched the movie 10 times) Max had a worse life outside the "dog pound" than he did inside. inside he feels a small feeling of being a part of something, and has friendship built with butch, angel, davis. once max leads butch to a possible escape, max stays because he is sadly and depressingly happier inside with the heavy attention, despite the strict rules and abuse.

  7. I don't know if there are some parts where skipped at the movie i seen. But it was obvious that butch is commited to his friends and he prefered to revenge rather then to escape or stay silent for only a week to be free because two of his friends died and what he did is considerable. So i think he will be freed. Any ways i couldn't manage but some seens realy makes you cries and hope that doesn't happen to your friends or brothers

    2. It is also possible that they shut down the rehabilitation center, after two death kids and testimonies of abuse maybe it was better to send the kids home or to other facilities

  9. I think Butch was sent to 4 year prison.

  10. Almost free in more ways than one, Butch is dragged back in by what he has no control over.

    His emotions.

    I see it often.

    1. At the end of the film, there is a memory of Nguyen Nuoc Luu. He was a cameraman who died four days before filming was completed

  13. In fact, nguyen nuoc luu is a name of Vietnamese origin, and the director of the film, of French nationality, is of Vietnamese origin ... So, it is probably simply a Tribute to a friend or relative probably deceased ... There is not to look further ...

  22. English..... ( Translated)
Nguyen Nuoc Luu was a young Vietnamese incarcerated in a juvenile prison in the United States and died under the beatings of these Gauliers. This film was dedicated to him after a large demonstration was held in the United States to denounce abuse in this type of establishment.

  24. Sad also that 2 young men went on to meet a bad future after parts in this movie ( posted above)....makes me wonder if the parts they played affected their futures.
    Very Sad if so.

  25. you have to remember he was sent their because he blinded a guard at an other place. Thats why he was moved their. Guards take care of guards, and with the riot happening they could just say it was self defense. Yes they killed Butch.

  26. Great Movie.. there are a lot of realistic things. inmates, trustees and C.O. this movie really did capture a good idea on what goes on in the cement world. There were some not so realistic parts but over I give it a 8 ... the only issue is they didn't follow thru on some of the leads and characters.. the ending was horrible.. I am not sure if the write was thinking about a part 2 ... but I really enjoyed the movie

  27. I am Vietnamese and it got my attention that the name at the end credit was spelled incorrectly. It supposed to be Nguyen instead of Ngyuen, because Nguye n is the most popular last name in Viet Nam, the word ngyuen never exists. So I just wonder is this a spelling mistake of the film maker or his last name is actually Ngyuen, people messed up the spelling on the paper when he was born and he just went on with that name. I just think that it is really disrespectful if the credit misspell the name of a decreased person. I really enjoyed the movie tho
