Catfish (2010)

The 'documentary' (is it, or is it not?) about a photographer, Nev, from New York who starts an online relationship through Facebook with a girl, Abby, and her family in Michigan. The friendship builds and Nev becomes involved with Abby's cousin Megan. Abby sends gifts to Nev and he becomes suspicious when some recordings of 'her voice' turn out to have been pulled straight from someone else on youtube. Strange? But what does happen at the end?
Nev and the guys head over to Michigan for a surprise trip to see Megan and to find out if she and the rest of the family are who they really says they are.
They first visit the stables that Megan is said to be keeping horses and rides them on a regular basis. When they get there, it is empty and deserted with no sign of any horses. The art exhibition where Abby is said to be keeping her paintings is also empty. Spooked, Nev and the guys decide to head straight to Abby's parents house.
When they get to the family house they meet Abby's Mum and Dad and two disabled sons that were not mentioned before. They ask for Megan but it slowly turns out that Megan does not exist. Abby, the daughter who was believed to be a painting prodigy, turns out not to be and when asked if she likes painting, she is not too fussed.
Nev sits down with Abby's Mum Angela and slowly the story starts to unfold. Angela had created the whole facebook family that Nev had got to know and it was all fake. All of Megan's friends were made up and Angela had painted all of Abby's 'paintings'. It appears that Angela used facebook as a source of escape of her current life and stated her regret at letting it get so far.

Dog Pound (2010)

Brutually real drama about three juveniles who enter a correctional centre. The Franco-Canadian remake of 'Scum', but what does happen at the end?
After the rape scene with Davis, he is alone in his bunk at night. He climbs of his bunk and rings the intercom for the guards. He asks to call his mum. They refuse. He continues to ring the intercom, to which the guards switch off. Davis, defeated, slowly crawls back to his bed but not before yanking a sharp part of the bunk off and taking it to bed with him.
The next morning, Davis is discovered in bed with bloodstains on his sheets. We are led to the conclusion that he has slit his wrists in the middle of the night from guilt of his abuse.
Later that day the rest of the kids go on hunger strike, partly due to Davis and Angel. The strike turns into a riot started by Butch. He goes for Banks's thugs and beats the hell out of them.
The riot team are called in and start going for the kids, who by now have smashed the place and the remaining guards to bits. Smoke grenades are thrown at the kids, and they try to bust down a door to get out.
Max leads Butch through a gap in the wall and into the laundry room. Butch keeps running and stops when he realises Max isn't following. He stops and looks at Max, who just looks sadly at him and closes the door on his way out. Butch runs out the back of the laundry room and to a door leading outside. After breaking the door down, he reaches the outside. He gasps at the fresh air and smiles. Behind him come three riot guards. One smashes his truncheon on Butch's leg, breaking it and sending him crippling to the ground. Butch screams. The other two start beating him and drag back through the open door into the depths of the laundry room and facility below. The last shot we see is one the riot guards reaching his arm back out to slam the door shut.
